450 km of marked hiking trails wind their way through the Achensee region. The Karwendel Massif, which borders the lake to the west, is Europe’s largest nature reserve. The Rofan Mountains are nearby, with beautiful landscape around Steinberg in the east. At the car-free west shore of the lake, idyllic hiking trails extend to the popular Gaisalm rest stop.
